This ethernet product has a single chip transceiver that performs 1000BaseT full duplex with CAT 5 cable. It uses GMII technology (Gigabit Media Independent Interface). The challenge for layout was to provide the many voltages to the transceiver without having any data lines cross over a plane partition. Impedance controlled lines and equal length differential pairs are crucial to the success of the gigabit transfer rates.
